There are two main categories of extensions that we offer – semi-permanent and temporary.
Depending on your hair, desired look, budget, and maintenance, we can help find the right solution for you!

The most popular solution at Ella Rose is semi-permanent extensions. We specialize in the beaded row method of extension application. Beaded rows is a category of extension application that uses beads and string to create a track close to your scalp, onto which the extension hair is sewn. It is an adhesive-free, easy-to-remove, modern way to obtain maximum length and fullness in minimal time.

We have stylists that have been trained in many of the top beaded row methods in the industry.  NBR (Natural Beaded Rows), IBE (Invisible Bead Extensions), Grace Hand-Tied, and SKW  (Sarah Kendall Wilkes method). We want to help you find the best method and adaptation for your hair and lifestyle.

Many people want to know if there is a “best” method. There are definitely better, safer, more secure, more gentle, and more seamless methods than others, but there are many great methods and adaptations!

More important than the method itself is the skill, detail, and experience of the stylist performing the method. Finding a stylist or salon that specializes in extensions can go a long way. At Ella Rose, we are proud that we specialize in extensions!

Halo Extensions

A Halo extension is a self applied temporary extension solution for people who want extra fullness and length without the commitment of a semi-permanent application. We are proud to offer the Halo Couture brand to our clients.

Halo Extensions - Learn More

We would love to set up a consultation with you to be fitted for your own Halo extension. First, we will determine if your current hair length and density allow you to successfully wear a Halo extension. We will then discuss your current hair color, determine the color of Halo that we need to purchase, and whether or not we will need to customize the color to achieve a perfect match. Lastly, we will determine the desired length and density of your Halo.  These steps will ensure we order the perfect Halo for you.

When your Halo extension arrives, we will set up a time for you to come in to give it a custom cut so that it blends into your natural hair as seamlessly as possible.

We look forward to working with you!

Crown Extensions

Crown Extensions (sometimes referred to as toppers)

Traditional extensions may only be a part of the solution you are looking for. If the density of hair on the crown of your head is quite low and sparse, there may not be enough hair to cover the traditional extensions.

Crown Extensions - Learn More

Traditional extensions may only be a part of the solution you are looking for. If the density of hair on the crown of your head is quite low and sparse, there may not be enough hair to cover the traditional extensions.

In addition, you may still be looking for more coverage and fullness on the crown of your hair. This is when crown extensions come in to play. These hair pieces are known by many names – crown extensions, toppers, falls, partial wigs, or top pieces.

The most common and convenient crown extensions is one that clips on to your remaining top hair. Or – if your density is quite low, can be taped into place. It is a temporary placement that you can take off to sleep, shower, and work out.

These crown extensions can be purchased as a stock piece that has a standard base size, amount of hair, and length of hair; semi customized with different options for cap size and length; or fully customized to create a cap that matches your head perfectly, and specifies the density of hair you are looking for.

All crown extensions need to receive a custom cut to blend into your natural hair. And can be further customized through thinning the density of the piece as well.

90% of crown extensions need to be custom colored. Stock pieces rarely match the nuances look of individualized coloring form a hair professional. The difference between an untouched color and a customized color in the overall look of your crown extensions is night and day.

Meagan Reitz is currently the only stylist that fits, cuts, and colors crown extensions at Ella Rose Hair Boutique. The last 4 years of her 23 year career have focused on customizing extensions and crown extensions. She is teaching this art and skill to some of her top stylists at Ella Rose to be able to meet the demand of more clients needing and wanting crown extensions.

The pricing of crown extension pieces varies greatly depending on the piece purchased – (customization level, length and density). A general range is from $900-$2000.

The customization for you is where the talent and time of a stylist comes in to play. It typically takes Meagan four hours to fully custom color a crown extension, and one hour to fit and custom cut the piece.

All hair services at Ella Rose are charged by the hour, with each stylists hourly rate being based on experience, expertise, and availability. Meagan’s hourly rate is currently $225/hr.

A custom crown extension piece can last well over a year if properly cared for. It does not go through the wear and tear that installed hair extensions do, and therefore the investment of time and money is less frequent for a crown extension.

If you think you may be interested in a crown extension, or are looking for a personalized consultation, please fill out our crown extension form. We will review the form and contact you within 48 hours to begin the process!

FAQs

HOW MUCH DO EXTENSIONS COST?

This is not an easy question to answer, and it comes in a two part answer. There are parts and labor that need to be discussed. The “parts” is the hair itself. We use high quality, ethically sourced hair from the top hair extension companies in the United States. Covet and Mane, Hair and Compounds, Harper Ellis, and Adored. The straight hair tends to be sourced from China. Wavy and curly hair tend to be sourced from India. We only use hand-tied wefts for our beaded row extensions, and the wefts are priced individually.( A “weft” is a thin 12-16 inch length of human hair that is tied together at the top with string. Many wefts need to be layered together on each beaded row/track. In general, clients need either one, two or three rows of extensions. This depends on the clients current natural hair (length, thickness) and their desired result. Each weft can have between 4-6 wefts per row. This is determined by the clients natural hair density and their desired look. A potential client could need between 4 and 16 wefts on their head depending on all of the variables mentioned above. Each weft length is a different price. In general, 18” and 22” lengths are the most commonly available for purchase. Occasionally we can find or order shorter or longer lengths and would charge accordingly for those. Currently we charge $105 per weft of 18” hair, and $150 per weft of 22” hair. These prices are non negotiable. Quality human hair is expensive – there are no two ways around it. We do not allow clients to bring outside extension hair from unknown hair vendors because we cannot guarantee quality and color matching for optimal blending.

Then there is the time/“labor” of the stylist who is installing your extensions. Extensions are a specialty service. Stylists have to seek out additional training to learn to properly install, color, and cut extensions. At Ella Rose we charge per row pricing for our extension installations. If you are receiving one row of extensions, you will pay for the installation of one row of extensions. If you are receiving three rows, you will pay for the installation of three rows regardless of how long the install takes.

This means that if your extension stylist in newer, or your more experienced extension stylist is having a day where they are moving slower, you don’t need to worry about the installation taking longer and being charged at the stylists hourly rate. Each extension stylist is on a tier for extension pricing, and their per row pricing reflects their expertise, experience, and availability.

Within each row pricing is a color allotment for the color used to refresh your extension hair if needed. The color allotment is sufficient for most toners and rooting processes. A color surcharge will generally only need to be assessed when a specialty color is being established, or a larger shift in color is needed or desired. The color cost will be tracked carefully, and will only be assessed if the per row color allotment has been exceeded.

Before we “extend” your hair, we want to make sure you like what we’re extending. We want to achieve and maintain your natural hair’s color along with the extension hair’s color so that they blend as seamless as possible. Everyone’s hair color desire is different, and the path to that desired color is different. One person may need an hour and a half color appointment just to touch up their grays and refresh their toner. Another may want bright blonde which can take between 2 1/2-4 hour sessions depending on their starting color, thickness, and length of their hair.

Each color session needed to achieve or maintain your color is a separate charge at the hourly color service rate of the stylist. We encourage you to fill out our extension questionnaire – where we can gather your current and inspiration hair pictures, and hair history – so that we can begin to narrow down the “parts and labor” that you will individually need to achieve your hair goals.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO BUY NEW HAIR?

Hair extensions are human hair that has been highly processed before ever being installed on your head. They degrade, get thin ends, and need a trim just like our hair. But unlike our hair, they don’t regrow after a trim! How long the extensions last depends on your at-home care, and your tolerance for the thinning and possible trimming that needs to happen to keep the hair looking fresh and long. If you love to have full, long hair always, you may consider purchasing two to four new wefts every other move up. We can rotate out the older thinner pieces, and the new fresh pieces will fill in the ends, preserving your long, full look.

Rotating in new wefts is also advisable when shifting your color as an extension wearer, as certain color changes (specifically going lighter) are unattainable without new extension hair.

If you are okay cutting your extensions shorter as they wear out a bit, you can get a whole new set of hair extensions every 9-10  months. If you choose to wait and replace them all at 9-10 months, your extensions will be significantly thinner and shorter than when they were first installed.

WHAT IS THE SALON MAINTENANCE FOR EXTENSIONS?

This is again a multi-part answer. There is the frequency in which you need to come in
for move-ups, and there is the at-home care. We will cover the at-home care in the following FAQ.

The frequency in which you need to come in for a move-up depends on your hair and
the method that is used. Generally speaking, most clients come in at 8 weeks. We do not
advise going longer than this. Some clients with finer, more delicate hair prefer to come in at 6
weeks. At a 6-8 week move up, your extensions are fully removed, your hair is colored, the
extension hair is re-colored or toned, and everything is reinstalled. This appointment can take between 2.5 – 6 hours depending on how many rows you wear and the time it takes to color your natural hair.

There is an option for a “mini move up” at three to four weeks with a certain style of installation. This option is good for clients who hate to feel their extensions too far off their head, clients who tend to have beads slip, and those who come in for gray coverage every 3-4 weeks. With this method, the extensions are not removed fully, but the rows are retightened against the head. This service cannot be performed beyond 4 weeks, and can only be performed three times before needing a full re-install. A mini move-up service must be performed on clean, dry hair. This service can be done in as little as half an hour if you come in with your hair freshly clean and blown out. In an hour (or more for the lion’s manes out there) session you can have us wash, style, and perform a mini-move-up. Or we can add it on top of a color service in a two to two-and-a-half-hour service. A mini move-up cannot be performed with the NBR method of installation or a hidden row installation.

WHAT IS THE AT HOME-CARE FOR EXTENSIONS?

“It is extremely important to use certain professional brands of hair care on your extensions. At Ella Rose, our preferred line for cleansing and conditioning your extensions is Iles Formula. We also love the Hydrate line in the Kevin Murphy brand. The hydrating lines within Oribe and Unite are also extension-approved. Do not use products containing protein on your extensions – they can rapidly degrade the extension hair. If you have specific products you love, please check with us first. We want to protect your investment in your extension hair!

Most extension wearers wash their hair once or twice a week. It takes time to wash, dry, and style your extensions, but the pay off is a style that holds beautifully for days on end. You can use dry shampoo or do a mini top/bang wash to freshen your look between shampoos if desired.

It is extremely important to fully brush your hair. Please fully (up to the top of your wefts) brush your extension hair before washing your hair. When conditioning your extensions, fully comb the conditioner through your extension hair with a wet brush. Please brush your hair fully after gently towel drying and applying your leave-in conditioner. Allowing any tangles to stay in your hair can turn into matting at the top of your extension wefts. Allowing matting to form creates unsightly bulk, and can damage not only your extensions but your natural hair as well. Matting is 100% avoidable with proper at-home care.

Please do your best to keep sunscreen, self-tanner, and perfumes/body sprays off of your extensions. They can discolor your blonde and it may never come out! Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen is the best choice for extension wearers as it doesn’t contain the ingredient often thought to be the culprit in discoloration. But still, be careful and let your sunscreen dry fully before letting your hair down.”
